The VULCAN board is a low power Intel® IXP425 XScale-based PC/104 form factor single board computer for secure embedded communication systems.

The IXP425 includes two on-chip 10/100baseT Ethernet controllers with hardware accelerated encryption (AES, DES, 3DES) and authentication (SHA-1, MD5) for enhanced communication security. The VULCAN offers 64Mbytes DRAM, 32Mbytes Flash, 4 high speed USB 2.0 ports, 4 serial ports (RS-232/RS-422/485), battery backed SRAM and RTC and a GPIO port.

The VULCAN is an ideal platform for secure wired/wireless remote terminal units, industrial network gateways and data acquisition systems. The CompactFlash (CF+) port can be used for both memory and WiFi cards while the PC/104 bus expansion connector can interface to a custom I/O baseboard or off-the-shelf PC/104 modules.

The VULCAN is fully supported with an embedded Linux development kit.
