Trenton's PCI-X backplane (BP1/1/2/4/4) automatically detects PCI or PCI-X option card type and matches segment speed to the card detected. This auto detect and speed matching maximizes system performance and enables high-speed, peer-to-peer communications between option cards. The backplane has a slot configuration of:

- Two 64-bit/100MHz PCI-X Slots
- Four 64-bit/66MHz PCI-X Slots
- Four 64-bit/33MHz PCI Slots
